Carlos Blanco Pérez
b. 1986 · Spanish writer, philosopher and academic; trained as a theologian, Egyptologist and chemist
Carlos Alberto Blanco Pérez (born in Madrid in 1986) is a Spanish writer, philosopher and academic who became known early on as a child prodigy. His thought sits at the meeting point of philosophy, theology and science, although his work also spans Egyptology and chemistry.
He first attracted attention in 1998, when he earned the highest mark in a hieroglyphs course run by the Spanish Association of Egyptology, and in 1999 he appeared on the television programme Crónicas marcianas. He began university studies at fifteen and went on to earn doctorates in Philosophy and in Theology, as well as a degree in Chemistry. Since 2014 he has taught at the Pontifical University of Comillas in Madrid, where his courses include philosophy of religion and theory of knowledge.
His output, more than forty books, centres on the relations between knowledge, meaning and belief. In his writings on the integration of knowledge he argues for bringing science, philosophy and art into dialogue. In theology he has studied resurrection and the afterlife in Judaism and Christianity. He is a founding member of The Altius Society, which holds an annual conference in Oxford, and was elected to the World Academy of Art and Science in 2015 and to the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2016.
