Spider Bones is the thirteenth novel by Kathy Reichs featuring Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist. In the book, Brennan is called to examine a newly dead body in Quebec, which turns out to be that of John "Spider" Lowery, an American former soldier apparently killed in Vietnam in 1968.

After exhuming the remains buried under Lowery's name, Brennan travels to Hawaii to check US military records, accompanied by her daughter Katy, who is grieving the death of a friend in Afghanistan. There they are joined by Detective Andrew Ryan, with whom Brennan occasionally has a relationship, and his daughter Lily, who is recovering from drug addiction. As Brennan begins to uncover the truth, the two young women are put in danger.

Critics noted that the author's scientific expertise lends credibility to her descriptions of autopsies, although the dialogue, especially between Brennan and her love interest, was less successful. Publishers Weekly praised Reichs' scientific expertise and the final twist of the plot.
